Smoking – Quitting or Cutting Down?

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

Smoking is a tough habit to break and most people try in vain for years. Some start by cutting down the number of cigarettes they smoke while some stop smoking at once. Different methods work differently for different people. Quitting smoking cold turkey is not easy, which is why many people look for smoking cessation aids. Some of the aids for smoking cessation are nicotine replacement therapies, hypnotherapy and behaviour modification counselling.

Champix
Champix is the latest aid for smoking cessation treatment. It’s clinically tested and proven to have a higher success rate as compared to other methods and treatments. The active ingredient in Champix is varenicline and it is available on prescription only. Champix is a safe and effective stop smoking drug but is not meant for everyone.

Champix is not to be taken with certain medications that are prescribed for asthma and diabetes. Champix should also not be taken if you take vitamin or herbal tablets or blood thinners. The active ingredients in Champix can react with these medications and cause certain side effects or alter the way these drugs work.

Warnings with Champix
People who are pregnant, nursing, having kidney and liver problems or suffer from depression and suicidal tendencies should not use Champix. It should also be used only if you are above the age of 18 years or below 65 years. Also if you are allergic to varenicline or any other ingredient in Champix, you must not take it for smoking cessation treatment.

Tell your healthcare professional or doctor about all your present and previous health conditions and the medications before you buy Champix. Do not attempt to hide anything from your doctor, as this might hinder your doctor’s judgment which will result in an incorrect diagnosis. This might lead to serious consequences and affect your health adversely.

Sexual health problems in women and their solutions

Friday, August 21st, 2009

“Not today honey, I am having a headache.”

How many times have you excused yourself from intimacy and sexual relations because of underlying sexual problems? As age advances, women become more and more resistant to sex. This can be due to a low libido, pain, vaginal dryness and a host of sexual problems that women might not even be aware of. If you too are avoiding sex and do not feel sexually stimulated, relax, help is at hand.

An overview of female sexual health
There are many sexual problems that make women disinterested towards sex. These problems not only affect the happiness and well-being of women but also seriously affect their partners. They can also impinge on relationships and the overall wellbeing of women. According to an article in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) in 1999, women suffer from more sexual disorders compared to men.

The most common female sexual problems
The most common sexual problem is a lack of sexual desire or hypoactive sexual desire disorder. This problem occurs mostly in women. It might go away on its own or might be persistent and bothersome. If the problem persists, it is advisable to seek a treatment. Some women desire sex but are not sexually aroused. Some women are sexually aroused and desire sex but are not able to achieve an orgasm. This condition is known as anorgasmia and is very distressing for women as it destroys the fun of sex. Repeated lack of orgasm can make women give up on sex and lose their sexual desire.

Pain during intercourse or dyspareunia is yet another sexual problem in women. It is less common in women as compared to other problems, but nevertheless, it is a painful condition and as many as 7% of women suffer from this problem according to studies.

The Solution and treatments
Vaginal lubricants, topical oestrogen, hormone replacement therapies, psychotherapy, sex therapy and Intrinsa are some of the treatments recommended to women suffering from sexual problems depending on their condition. Seek advice from a doctor to help you to determine which products are safe and beneficial for you.

If you go back in the past, say a decade or more, you could have hardly found any effective treatment for erectile dysfunction and most men used to live with this condition for many years. However, now you have some of the best oral treatments for impotence that also includes Cialis tadalafil, a long lasting pill.

Cialis is an oral pill used for the treatment of male impotence. Its manufacturer, Eli Lilly and Company introduced Cialis into the market in 2003. Since then, it has helped treat millions of men including those with chronic impotence. Now, lower doses of Cialis are also available for men, popularly known as, ‘Cialis a day’ pill.

Lower version, ‘Cialis once a day’, is available for men who suffer from chronic impotence, on prescription of a doctor. You shouldn’t take it against the advice of a doctor, as it may prove harmful and cause some unpleasant side effects.

What are the possible side effects of overdose?
The most common side effects of Cialis are headache, facial flushing, indigestion, back pain, muscle aches, and stuffy or runny nose. These side effects are generally short-lived. Cialis may also uncommonly cause side effects like pripiasm and vision problems.

Pripiasm is a condition due to which an erection continues for more than four hours, thus increasing the chances of damaging the penis permanently. If such side effect appears after you take Cialis dose, then you should immediately rush to seek medical help. Overall, Cialis is a proven impotence treatment pill that has proved helpful for most men with impotence.

Hair Loss can be beaten!

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

Hair loss is a distressing condition and most people losing hair fall victim to depression, low self-esteem and many social problems. However, all these problems can be things of past now, as male pattern hair loss can now be treated. Men suffering from hair loss can get back their hair or stop further hair loss with a revolutionary medication known as Propecia. However, more on this later, let us first delve deeper into the causes of hair loss in men, also known as androgenic alopecia.

Androgenic alopecia
For years scientists have been researching constantly to find out the causes behind male hair loss or androgenic alopecia. From barber’s combs to hats and from grandfather’s inherited genes to hormones, a lot of things were put to blame. However, most researchers today blame hormones, called androgens, for hair loss. Male pattern baldness is believed to be caused by a genetic sensitivity of hair follicles to dihydrotestosterone, which causes the follicles to shrink. Dihydrotestosterone shortens the lifespan of follicles and prevents them from producing hair normally. A few years ago, there was no treatment for hair loss but a medication (finasteride) developed for prostate problems was found to have an interesting side effect, which turned out to be a unique selling point and today this medication is the most popular hair loss treatment in the market.

Propecia Finasteride
Manufactured by Merck, Propecia finasteride works by inhibiting the production of dihydrotestosterone in the body. This helps hair follicles from shrinking further. Propecia works in more than 80% of men taking it and has no or minimal side effects. Finasteride was originally developed for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in low doses, and prostate cancer in higher doses. It is still available for the treatment of these serious conditions in men. However, it is more famous as a hair loss drug than a drug for these conditions. Consult a doctor and find out if Propecia finasteride is safe for you as a hair loss medication or not.
